Respond to Gita passages

Feel free to respond to the following passages from Chapters 1 and 2OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT STRIKES YOUR FANCY (!):

On rigid adherence to religious scriptures

"Foolish men talk of religion
in cheap, sentimental words,
leaning on the scriptures:'God
speaks here, and speaks here alone.'"

On the nature of action:

"You have a right to your actions,
but never to your actions' fruits.
Act for action's sake.
And do not be attached to inaction."

On the nature of the wise man:

"When a man gives up all desires
that emerge from the mind, and rests
contented in the Self by the Self,
he is called a man of firm wisdom."

On the nature of action: This makes me think about studying a subject or going to school. I notice a resistance from some of my students (of mathematics) to learn from the assignments that I give them. One student prepared an argument for why she should get 6 out of 10 points instead of 4 out of 10 points. It was a very good argument (if you could read her mind while grading). The resistance, as I see it, was to sitting down and figuring out how to make a better argument for the solution of the problem. Many college students are very grade oriented, focused on the result. It blocks real learning.
